Dhikala Canter Safari
A canter safari offers a unique way to see the wildlife. Dhikala is the only zone amongst all five of Corbett tiger reserve which offers a canter safari. The best time to visit Dhikala is from 15th November to 15th June. Tourists can stay overnight in the forest lodge in the zone and see wildlife taking a jeep safari. For those unable to stay in the forest lodge, a day permit can be booked for a canter safari. A canter is an open bus which can accommodate 16 tourists apart from a tiger reserve expert guide. To observe the large variety of wildlife of the national park, Dhikala zone is the best. Enjoy the 5-hour canter safari and view the abundant wildlife of one of the oldest tiger reserve in the world.

The trails of the Dhikala zone are best observed in a canter safari. The grasslands are home to a large number of bird species and wild animals. Booking for canter safari can be done from the Jim Corbett National Park website (www.jimcorbettsafaribooking.com). Charges for canter safari is 1500 INR for Indian nationals and 3000 INR for foreign nationals. Only 2 canter safari is done in a day – one in the morning (6-11.30 am) and one in the afternoon (12-5.30pm). The timing may vary slightly in winters. Since a maximum of 2 canters is allowed inside the zone at a time, prior booking is essential. Indian nationals can make bookings 45 days prior to their visit and foreign nationals can do the same 90 days in advance.
Canter safari booking is essential for tourists who are staying outside the forest reserve area and wish to explore the Dhikala zone. Indian nationals can book one 30 days in advance while foreign nationals can book 90 days in advance. Booking for a canter safari requires the name, age, gender and a government approved photo ID proof (passport, voter ID, PAN card, driving license). The ID proof is also required to be with the tourists at the time of entering the tiger reserve. Canter picks and drops tourists from their place of accommodation as per their safari timings. It is essential to note that canter safari charges once paid are non-refundable.
